Job Summary:
The Mechanical Specialist operates equipment and performs corrective and preventive maintenance on high speed cigarette manufacturing and packaging machinery.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates the equipment and is responsible for product quality, output, waste and regulatory compliance.
- Makes mechanical repairs and adjustments to the equipment and is responsible for machine health and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Diagnose machine problems and perform corrective maintenance, respond to fault lamp and message displays, and adjust machines accordingly. Create machine repair records in SAP/CMMS.
- Performs preventive maintenance on regularly scheduled intervals.
- Make standard adjustments, timings, settings, alignments, and replacement of parts.
- Install and commission manufacturing and packaging equipment.
- Operate, start, and stop manufacturing equipment using appropriate control devices.
- Perform machine and area cleaning as described in standard work instructions.
- Perform all quality checks and tests as described in standard work instructions.
- Order and verify materials, verify production specifications, order parts, enter work history, monitor and respond to KPI data prompts, set up machine for various products through direct interaction with advanced Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Parts Ordering System(s) and Document Management System, and other computer applications as appropriate.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Industrial Systems Technology – Machine Operator Certificate or certificate in a related field or military equivalent.
- NOTE: Those candidates NOT possessing an Industrial Systems Technology – Machine Operator Certificate or certificate in a related field or military equivalent BUT have three years’ experience working in a mechanical field are required to submit to mechanical reasoning and aptitude testing in lieu of the educational requirement.
Preferred Experience:
- Three years’ experience working in a mechanical field with high-speed manufacturing equipment.
Required Credentials and Skills:
- WorkKeys - Reading for Information or Workplace Documents @ Level 5, Applied Math @ Level 4, Graphic Literacy @ Level 4, Workplace Observation @ Level 2.
- Basic computer skills to include Microsoft applications.
- Operate powered industrial trucks and aerial platforms.
Preferred Credentials and Skills:
- Industrial Systems Technology – A.A.S Or Mechanical Engineering Technology – A.A.S. Or Mechatronics Engineering Technology – A.A.S. Or A.A.S degree in a related field Or military equivalent.
- SAP/CMMS application skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally lift/position materials to 97 lbs.
- Standing, reaching, lifting, pulling, stooping, bending.
- Able to use and climb ladders.
- Work at heights up to 40 feet.
